Andrea King is a great femme fatale, mainly because her true aims are never as readily apparent as they seem, and even though Lucky is wise to her potential danger, he nevertheless falls into one of her man traps.

The Criterion Collection has announced their films that will be released on Blu-ray and DVD for early 2015, and Universal’s “Ride the Pink Horse” (1947) is among them! This all-but-lost film noir gem was never (legitimately) released on VHS, let alone DVD, and features one of Andrea King’s best performances as the villainous Marjorie Lundeen.

“Ride the Pink Horse” will be released on March 17, 2015, with the following special features (according to Criterion’s website):

  • New 2K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • Audio commentary featuring film noir historians Alain Silver and James Ursini
  • New interview with Imogen Sara Smith, author of In Lonely Places: Film Noir Beyond the City
  • Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the film from 1947, featuring Robert Montgomery, Wanda Hendrix, and Thomas Gomez

TCM Remembers James Garner on Monday, July 28, 2014.

The Official Andrea King Website Posted on July 22, 2014 by Paul Miles SchneiderJuly 22, 2014 2

A fine actor and a classy man. That’s the way Andrea King remembered him.

“And so handsome!” she was quick to add.

Andrea had the pleasure of working with James on “Maverick” in an episode entitled “Two Tickets to Ten Strike,” and they both appeared in the feature film “Darby’s Rangers” from Warner Bros. This was one of his first leading roles on the big screen, and although they shared no scenes together, Andrea visited with him at length while on the set. He was a bit nervous about the project, but very excited, too.

Andrea King took a featured role in "Darby's Rangers," starring James Garner. Warner Bros., 1958.

Andrea King in HD: “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid” coming to Blu-ray in July!

The Official Andrea King Website Posted on June 26, 2014 by Paul Miles SchneiderJune 26, 2014 4

Although it hasn’t been released on DVD in the United States yet, Universal’s “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid” is swimming to the surface on Blu-ray Disc via Olive Films on July 8, 2014!

Andrea King gives a delightful performance as nightclub singer Cathy Livingston, who tries to woo Mr. Peabody (William Powell) as he struggles with midlife crisis and the notion that a mermaid (Ann Blyth) has fallen in love with him.

You can find a very good advance review of this release on DVDbeaver.com. No special features, but the audio and video quality (check out the terrific screen captures) seem to be excellent!

Happy shopping!

A long-overdue overhaul to the Official Andrea King Website!

The Official Andrea King Website Posted on May 31, 2014 by Paul Miles SchneiderJune 25, 2024 1

In some ways, I’m technologically savvy, in others, not so much. I can be right on the cutting edge of big trends and work with brilliant designers and Sony’s digital gurus to help invent the Blu-ray Disc interface (yes, I really did that!). Then I can also lag so far behind the curve that I fall off the planet (it is flat after all, isn’t it?).

With the Official Andrea King Website, I originally created it in Microsoft FrontPage, which had its final release in 2003 and hasn’t been supported for years. Add to it that my PC was running on Windows XP, also no longer supported by Microsoft, and it was time I joined the 21st century!

I took my cue from this blog and my own Silver Shoes blog and redid Andrea’s entire site (built from the ground up again) in WordPress, hosted by Bluehost. Both companies have never let me down with easy integration, excellent tech support, and all sorts of bells and whistles that I can utilize and tinker with.

The result of my efforts went “live” today when her new site was deployed. It should be sufficiently crawled by search engines over the next few days and weeks, and I’m proud to maintain and update the online domain for my dear friend. I enjoyed these photos from her scrapbooks when I first pored over them and scanned the images almost 17 years ago now. They worked so well with her stories about the films and plays. I hope you’ll take some time to have a look. I think you will enjoy it.

Have Books, Will Travel: Book Club Event for “More Than Tongue Can Tell” held in Clinton, MO

The Official Andrea King Website Posted on April 19, 2014 by Paul Miles SchneiderApril 19, 2014

Restaurant owner Jennifer McWilliams and her book club in Clinton, Missouri, selected the recently published “More Than Tongue Can Tell,” co-written by Andrea King and Paul Miles Schneider, for their book of the month!

Paul was invited to spend the afternoon in Clinton for the club’s monthly gathering. He answered questions about the lives of film star Andrea King and her cigar-smoking mother Belle McKee and brought a full PowerPoint presentation along with him, complete with rare photos from Andrea and Belle’s personal scrapbooks. The readers posed insightful questions about the identity of Andrea’s father, a mystery that weaves its way throughout the book, as well as other notable, true-life figures who played important roles in their century-long journey.

Book clubs are a great way to share good stories, opinions, and (in this case) ask an author questions in person about the creation of a book. If you’re reasonably reachable by car from Lawrence, Kansas, home of co-author Paul Miles Schneider, and you have a book club interested in “More Than Tongue Can Tell,” don’t hesitate to contact Paul about an event. You can do so by way of the Facebook page for this book or by leaving a comment below.
